Q1: Are the PhD Sisters Group and the Pi Eta Delta Sorority the same group?

A: No. The Pi Eta Delta Sorority and the PhD Sisters Group are separate entities. While both groups fall under the International PhD Sisters Association (IPSA), they have different purposes.

Q2: Does a Pi Eta Delta Sorority Membership include admission into the International PhD Sisters Association?

A: Yes. Once you become a member of the Pi Eta Delta Sorority, you are automatically enrolled as a member of the International PhD Sisters Association.

Q3: What is the difference between the PhD Sisters Group and the Pi Eta Delta Sorority?

A: The PhD Sisters Group is a support group for women enrolled in or who completed a PhD, EdD, DBA or other doctoral program at a regionally accredited college or university. The focus of the PhD Sisters Group is the dissertation process.

The Pi Eta Delta Sorority is a professional social networking community dedicated to enhancing the professional development (scholarship) of women whom are doctoral scholars or doctoral candidates in addition to assisting young women in the pursuit of their education.

Q4: If I received a personal invitation from the Pi Eta Delta Sorority to join, do I need the required recommendation letter?

A: No. The personal invite replaces the recommendation letter.

Q5 If I received a personal invitation from the Pi Eta Delta Sorority to join, do I need to supply either the letter of acceptance to a doctoral program, current (unofficial) transcripts, or the link to my published dissertation?

A: Yes. Email one of the previously mentioned items to pietadelta1@gmail.com with a ‘subject line’ of Application Materials for “Your Name”.

Q6: Is the Pi Eta Delta Sorority like a traditional undergraduate Sorority?

A: Yes and No. While there are a few similarities, one being that the group is for the solidarity of women; the Pi Eta Delta Sorority is original in that this exclusive group focuses on the scholarship and professional development of women who have their PhD/Doctoral degree. See the About Us.

Q7: Do I need to be a member of the IPSA or the PhD Sisters Group on Facebook to submit an application to the Pi Eta Delta Sorority?

A: No. You do not need to be a member of either group to apply for a membership. The Pi Eta Delta Sorority welcomes women from both groups.

Q8: Do I need an invitation to apply for a membership?

A: No. Review the membership page, complete the application for membership, and submit the necessary application materials. See Membership.

Q9: Do I need to have completed my PhD/Doctoral degree to join?

A: No. The Pi Eta Delta accepts members as long as they are actively pursuing or have completed a PhD, EdD, DBA, or other Doctoral degree.

Q10: Why does the IPSA website indicate “By Invitation Preferred"?

A: An invitation from the Pi Eta Delta or a recommendation from an existing member is preferred and the most effective way to join the group as they replace the required recommendation letters.

Q11: How can members leverage the organization in their careers?

A:  While there are many opportunities to leverage the Pi Eta Delta Sorority into one’s career, the most effective way is to participate in and complete recommended activities geared towards professional development. Members can include their membership affiliation on their curriculum vitae, resume, and LinkedIn page.

Q12: What type of interaction do members have within the organization?

A: “Delta Diamonds” participate in discussions in the private discussion forum, email, and monthly meetings that promote the mission of the Sorority. Future plans include exclusive events and gatherings.

Q13: What type of relationship exists between members and the organization?

A: A symbiotic relationship where we work together for the group and the individual development of our members.

Q14: Can you be a member of another Sorority and still be a member of the Pi Eta Delta Sorority?

A: Yes. You can be a member of another Sorority and still become a member of the Pi Eta Delta Sorority.

Q15: If I previously sent my dissertation information, do I need to resend my?

A: No. If you previously supplied the publication of your dissertation [UMI Publication Number, Link to the abstract in Proquest's gradworks.umi.com, or transcripts] you do not need to resend as part of the application.
